Savvy Productions is an Emmy-winning, full-service video production company driven by a passion for bringing ideas to life. Being internationally acclaimed, Savvy Productions has created thousands of corporate videos, commercials, TV ads, and motion graphics, serving clients across Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. Central to the company is its collaborative approach, combining its expertise and commitment to delivering visual storytelling that resonates and inspires awe.
Founder Stephen Smith began his journey filming home movies in the backyard with friends and a VHS camera. After 13 years of working for another company and an attempt to purchase it didn’t pan out, he saw it as a catalyst to take the leap and create his own company. Eight years later, he’s never looked back.
“Starting a business is an exciting and rewarding endeavor,” Smith says. “The greatest advantage is that when your vision succeeds, you reap the full rewards. However, success requires unwavering commitment. If you’re not fully dedicated to making your business thrive, it may be best to pursue another path. The journey will be challenging, but if you’re willing to give it your all, the rewards will be well worth it.”
Entrepreneurship hasn’t always been easy, though. Starting a business can be a tough and lonely journey, and Smith emphasized that the support of his spouse and family helped get his business running quickly and work through challenges.
In addition to family support, the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and The Mill Entrepreneurship Center, both located at the Salt Lake Community College Miller Campus, have helped build his company and business skills. “It was an incredible opportunity and really helped me think about how to grow my business,” Smith says.
With 10 combined Emmy Award nominations and wins, Savvy Production has thrived in Utah’s rich film and television industry.
“I absolutely love Utah — its stunning landscapes make the entire state a perfect backdrop for filming,” Smith says. “Being based here has shaped Savvy Productions in countless ways, from working alongside incredible businesses to benefiting from a supportive government that encourages growth. We’re truly grateful for the support we’ve received along the way.”
